When Lyft and Uber went public on the stock market, driver fares plummeted. From a 70/30 split, both companies flipped the script and started taking roughly 70% of our fares, which left drivers earning barely enough — around 30% of the fare.
I was basically getting by mainly on tips from passengers. So if a passenger didn't tip, I was in trouble. The money earned just wasn't enough.
